Holy Thursday. One of my favorite Masses of the year. We celebrate several things, including kicking off the Triduum, the most holy time in the Church calendar. On Holy Thursday we commemorate the Last Supper, when Jesus simultaneously gave us the precious gift of the Eucharist and also the Institution of the Holy, Catholic Priesthood. What a joyful celebration!

Our priests are so busy, but particularly so this week of the year with many liturgies and celebrations during the conclusion of Lent, the Triduum and the many Easter Mass celebrations. In years past, I’ve had the honor of taking one of my priest buddies to dinner on Holy Thursday to thank him for his “Yes” to the Lord to serve His Church as a priest. We cannot thank these men enough for their courage to hear the Holy Spirit and answer “The Call.”

So this year and in year’s future, let’s truly take time out to thank our priests by honoring them with “Buy A Priest A Beer Day,” or if they don’t like beer, whatever their drink of choice. čśë

Honor your priests (and seminarians) and thank them for their generous yes. If  not tonight after Holy Thursday Mass, then in the near future. This is a celebration that should happen daily!
